Primarily Kraft Paper, Sack Paper, Formable Paper (FibreForm®) and Pulp are produced in Karlsborg. In addition there are two application laboratories with expertise in pulp optimization and development of sack- and bag solutions.
Karlsborg's production unit, just outside Kalix in Norrbotten County, is a world-leading manufacturer of Sack Paper, Formable Paper (FibreForm®) and Kraft paper intended for users with very high demands on efficient, creative and functional packaging solutions. In Karlsborg, bleached pulp is also produced for delivery in bundled form. The sack paper is used for industrial packaging such as cement bags or consumer products as animal food. The kraft paper is used as packaging paper for our own products and dry foods such as flour and sugar.
In Karlsborg there is also two application laboratories that offer value-creating services focusing on challenging the conventional. Product Development Center (PDC)offers analysis and development of sack constructions with a focus on powdery products like building materials, chemicals, minerals, flour and sugar. PDC also offers the development of materials and solutions for bag packaging. Especially for dry foods such as flour, sugar and grains but also service in handbags for fashion or food. PulpLab collaborates with several of Billerud's own factories to develop the company's own pulp products. In addition to developing our own pulp product, the lab also offers evaluation, development and processing of customers' pulp.
