BillerudKorsnäs recognized for leadership in climate action

BillerudKorsnäs’ contribution to the low-carbon economy and actions to cut emissions have been recognized by the global environmental non-profit CDP, when BillerudKorsnäs today secured a place on the prestigious ‘A List’ for tackling climate change.

CDP’s annual environmental disclosure and scoring process is widely recognized as the gold standard of corporate environmental transparency. In 2020, more than 5,800 companies were scored, and only the few top performing companies achieved a place on the ‘A-list’.

- At BillerudKorsnäs we believe that combatting climate change is the most critical issue of our time, so we are very happy to receive this confirmation by CDP. That means that we are on track with our ambition, action and transparency on climate issues, says Malin Ljung Eiborn, Sustainability Director at BillerudKorsnäs.

A detailed and independent methodology is used by CDP to assess companies on the comprehensiveness of disclosure, awareness and management of climate risks and demonstration of best practices, such as setting ambitious and meaningful targets.

- BillerudKorsnäs was one of the first companies to set a climate target aligned with the Paris Agreement. After many years of hard work our production is today 97% fossil-free. Now we need to work even harder to cut these last three percentages. In addition, we are engaging a large portion of our value chain on this topic – we have, for example, reduced emissions from downstream transports by 38% since 2016, says Malin Ljung Eiborn.

CDP is not the only organization that evaluates BillerudKorsnäs on sustainability topics. Malin continues:

- This year we have been named leader in a number of sustainability rankings, such as Dow Jones Sustainability Index, EcoVadis, Sustainalytics and CDP. In our opinion, CDP is the most rigorous on the market when it comes to climate change issues. We believe that it is important to get a third-party and external evaluation that we are doing everything in our power to contribute to a sustainable future.
