Summary Description:
This position is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the Paper Area of the Mill. This includes the paper machine, coater and finishing operations. The qualified candidate will ensure that the Paper Manufacturing Departments operate safely & efficiently in producing high quality products in an environmentally conscious manner.
Qualifications
Key Accountabilities:
- Promote and lead a safe work environment
- Ensure that the department maintains compliance with all environmental requirements and regulations. Fortify sound environmental stewardship among all department team members through awareness and training
- Direct training of team members to perform their jobs safely and efficiently while maintaining a high standard of housekeeping.
- Ensure the efficient operation and output of all Paper Machine Lines
- Provide direction and guidance to the area management team personnel as required to achieve area, business unit, and mill objectives.
- Work with maintenance leaders in the scheduling and coordination of major maintenance work and outages.
- Responsible for the development & execution of the Paper Manufacturing Area budget.
- Prioritize repairs & equipment purchases to be included in department's annual budget and long-term capital plans.
- Assist the R&U and Fiberline Business Unit Manager in strategic and developmental planning for input into the mill level planning efforts as appropriate.
- Actively participate in and support the Manufacturing Work Systems at the Mill.
- Build and grow an effective team. Ensure support, engagement, & participation by all direct reports. Engage team members to fully utilize their knowledge, skills, and potential.
- Make routine inspections of operating areas, checking progress of projects, reviewing operating logs, checking for abnormal equipment operations, optimizing work efficiency, ensuring good housekeeping, making safety observations, etc.
- Participate in equipment inspections during downtimes to anticipate and assess maintenance requirements and expenditures.
- Maintain contract provisions and company policies to avoid breach of contract. Ensure conformance to work rules and regulations, administering disciplinary measures when needed.
- Continue to develop and expand personal understanding of process operations and technology, applicable state and federal environmental rules and regulations, and keep abreast of new developments and technological advancements.
- Provide on-call and weekend duty coverage.
Personal qualities
Required Experience and Education:
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (pulp & paper; chemical, industrial; mechanical; electrical or other related field) or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 10 years of paper manufacturing technical/line leadership experience and five years of leadership experience is required.
- Record of success in leading safety, managing with data & an ability to engage the workforce
