The goal of Billerud’s internship program is to cultivate the development of potential future resources for our organization while providing high-quality support to the Human Resources group. Internship assignments are structured to provide candidates with opportunities to grow and develop in their chosen discipline as well as educate them on various career paths within the organization. Although there is no guarantee of future employment, our goal is to have our interns fully capable of stepping into a full-time position within our organization.

 

Summary Description:

 

The Payroll Intern provides administrative and analytical support to the Corporate Payroll team by assisting with time and pay processing, payroll data audits, reporting, and documentation. This role offers hands-on exposure to payroll operations, compliance requirements, and HR systems while supporting accurate and timely payroll processing for the organization.

 

 

 

 

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist with reviewing employee time records in Dayforce Workforce Management (WFM) for accuracy and completeness prior to payroll cut-off
  • Support payroll audits by gathering documentation, validating data, and reconciling discrepancies
  • Assist with data entry and maintenance of employee payroll records in HRIS systems
  • Prepare payroll reports and spreadsheets for review by Payroll and HR leadership
  • Support processing of payroll adjustments, including retro pay, corrections, and special earnings with appropriate backup documentation
  • Maintain organized electronic payroll files in accordance with internal procedures and confidentiality requirements
  • Respond to basic payroll inquiries from HR partners and employees, escalating issues as appropriate
  • Assist with special payroll-related projects and process improvement initiatives as assigned

Personal qualities

Required Experience and Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field
  • Completion of at least one year of college coursework required; sophomore standing or higher preferred

 

Required Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability and desire to learn HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Dayforce)
  • Dependable attendance and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
