What if a career with us could unlock your full potential?

We have over 150 different professional roles at Billerud, and a career with us can therefore take on many different ways. We will now have the chance to read more about Zacharias Pavlov, who works as a group manager for the automation team at our mill in Gruvön.

Meet Zacharias Pavlov, group manager for the automation team at Gruvön. After his vocational training in automation, he wrote his thesis with us in 2019 and was subsequently employed as a materials handler, which then transitioned into an operations technician role. He now works as a group manager for the automation team, and we are naturally curious to find out how he ended up in that role!

After taking part in IT/systems improvement projects, he joined the company in 2021 as a process engineer, where he continued to develop his skills in problem-solving methodology. His education combined with the fact that there was such a vacancy meant that the position of automation engineer seemed like the perfect opportunity for Zacharias. A while after, his role developed into group manager for the automation team.

“At the moment I’m new to the role and find that its technical complexity makes it challenging and a lot of fun. I still have a lot to learn, which is an exciting challenge.”

In what way has there been room for you to influence your career within the company?

I’ve shown that I want to learn and develop, and I’ve had managers who’ve believed in me, which has made me even more determined to take advantage of the opportunities I’ve been given.”

Zacharias goes on to say that he has felt well taken care of, and if he has highlighted an area with potential for improvement, there has certainly been an opportunity to work on it.

I've found systems and IT very exciting and had the chance to work with them. For example, I’ve been involved in projects related to traceability, EDI and implementation.”

What tips would you give to others who want to try out different roles within Billerud?

Dare to take the chance! Get involved and make sure you’re visible when the opportunity arises.”

Zacharias stresses the importance of having the courage to speak up when you see potential for improvement, and then openly showing commitment and willingness to make an impact. A big factor in Zacharias having the courage to try new things is also that he has had managers who believed in him. They have had open communication with each other, which has established trust and commitment.

To maximise your chances of developing, you have to be open about wanting to develop and learn
