Meet our summer workers - Tilde Hallgren

Every year, we employ around 400 summer workers in our production units. These summer workers are essential for ensuring that we maintain secure and stable production during the summer months as well. Here, we meet Tilde Hallgren who worked as a CAD Specialist at our Gävle mill.

Tell us about yourself

"My name is Tilde and I live 30 kilometers south of Gävle, in Älvkarleby, where I grew up. I am 21 years old and in my free time, I play football in Skutskär's women's team. I love being creative and draw a lot.

"I attended the Technical Program at Polhemsskolan with a focus on civil engineering and environment, and now I am continuing with a university program called the Urban and Regional Planning Program, which also focuses on civil engineering. It is a three-year program and I have completed one year so far."

How did you end up at Billerud? What sparked your interest?

"Last summer, I wasn't sure what to apply for, but my then-boss suggested that the central workshop had many spare parts that needed to be drawn up for archiving. Since I had CAD skills from high school, I started drawing these spare parts so they could be published in an archive. This summer, I continue to draw spare parts and scan old drawings using what can be likened to a large photocopier."

"For me, it was important to get a position where I could really try out what I enjoy. The wages here are fair and I know many people who work here, so it felt right to be part of the large production. I actually started as a Tekniksprångare at Billerud right after graduation in the fall of 2022, where I spent about four months in the Tekniksprånget program. After that, I got a project position in the spring, which was followed by the summer job I am in this year as well."

Tell us something you have learned or discovered about Billerud since you started your summer job

"One thing I have discovered is how many different job roles there are. It was not even close to what I could have ever imagined and something I also learned is how important each job role is for us to be able to produce packaging material in the end and for production to work."

"For my own development, I have learned an incredible amount, especially about CAD and how it works in different systems. I have also gained insight into how to manufacture spare parts and what is required to do so. One of the most interesting discoveries I have made about Billerud is the realization that one in four liquid cartons is made in Gävle. This makes me very proud to say that I am a small part of that process."

"The best part has been all the people I have met – they are really the ones who make the work so enjoyable."

Finally, what are you most looking forward to during your summer with us?

"I look forward to learning the entire CAD process from start to finish. Last summer, I learned a lot, and now I have even better conditions to learn even more. I hope to have made about 45 drawings while also taking on various smaller tasks, such as uploading metadata about different projects happening at the factory into one of the various systems that Billerud uses to store documentation."
