Sealed Paper Packaging wins Sustainability Awards 2017

Bosch and BillerudKorsnäs solution for dry foods receives global recognition.

Bosch Packaging Technology and BillerudKorsnäs’ collaboration on Sealed Paper Packaging has won the 2017 Sustainability Awards in the Bio-Based Packaging category. The international jury recognized Sealed Paper Packaging specifically for its unique combination of mono-material Axello® paper from BillerudKorsnäs and the ZAP-Module from Bosch Packaging Technology, which together enable the production of 100 percent dust-tight yet fully recyclable packaging for dry products such as sugar, grains and flour. Launched in June 2016, the solution is currently available on vertical form-fill-seal as well as mandrel wheel machines, providing an attractive alternative to the traditional paper bags in this segment.

“Bosch takes a comprehensive approach to sustainability. We strive to support our customers in any way we can - from developing and testing new concepts to implementing them in production. Sealed Paper Packaging is a perfect example of how our solutions address the market challenges of today and tomorrow. Retailers and consumers profit from clean shelves, high product protection and improved product quality”, Dr Stefan König, chairman of the managing board of Bosch Packaging Technology, said.

“Thanks to our long-standing cooperation with Bosch we can challenge conventional packaging and transition towards a more sustainable future. We are honored that our passion for innovation is being recognized by this award”, Johan Nellbeck, senior vice president at BillerudKorsnäs.

The philosophy behind the Sustainability Awards is to promote innovative solutions throughout the packaging supply chain that make outstanding contributions to sustainability. In its third year, the competition is organized by Packaging Europe, a leading trade magazine for packaging professionals all over the world, and recognizes advances made in seven categories: weight reduction, circular economy, cutting food waste, bio-based packaging, machinery, best practice and best sustainable packaging.
