Job Description:
The HR Generalist supports the development and execution of Human Resources strategy and practices that foster an engaged, productive, and positive work environment. This role partners with leaders and employees across assigned departments and provides day‑to‑day HR support while contributing to talent management, employee relations, and HR Operations initiatives.
Qualifications
Key Accountabilities:
- Ensure safety remains the top priority while exemplifying Billerud's values and supporting a culture of accountability and employee well-being.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership by providing objective analysis utilizing data-driven recommendations on people and organizational decisions within area of responsibility.
- Analyze HR and labor analytics to identify trends and drive improvement activities including turnover, retention, promotions, staffing effectiveness, and employee engagement.
- Provide coaching and training for managers, supervisors and key mill leaders. This position will be responsible for supporting multiple departments/areas of the mill.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with team members and managers at all levels.
- Ensure proper administration of HR related policies.
- Lead investigations, issuing of discipline, and other contractual issues for areas of responsibility.
- Partner with leadership on succession and workforce planning, performance management, goal setting, headcount management, and staffing strategies aligned to operational needs for areas of responsibility.
- Support the identification and development of frontline leaders and high-potential employees to strengthen the internal leadership pipeline and support succession continuity.
- Promote and facilitate changes in the hourly work environment to increase employee engagement and productivity.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives and action-planning efforts that foster a positive, productive work environment and strengthen employee commitment and retention.
- Partner with leadership to proactively identify and address workforce concerns, improve organizational health, and enhance the employee experience.
- Ability to lead change or process improvement projects to their result to include efficiency improvement, cost reduction and implementing nontraditional or high performing work systems.
- Lead and/or participate in the hourly production and craft hiring processes.
- Lead and/or participate in salaried recruiting for positions across the mill.
- Assist with college recruitment efforts and support talent pipeline initiatives through partnerships with schools, technical programs, community organizations, and industry networks.
- Participate in or lead new team member orientation process and onboarding activities that accelerate employee engagement, retention, and productivity.
- Lead or assist in the development of employee relations practices necessary to establish a positive working relationship.
- Lead or assist in talent management initiatives for the mill or area of responsibility.
Personal qualities
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or related field and/or 3-5 years of progressive human resources experience.
- Pulp, Paper, Packaging, or other 24/7 manufacturing experience preferred.
- Experience supporting employee relations, talent management, workforce planning, employee engagement, and organizational development initiatives.
- Working knowledge of employment law, HR systems, compensation and benefits administration, and HR best practices.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and develop supervisors, frontline leaders, and high-potential employees.
- Experience utilizing workforce metrics and analytics to support business decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to define and implement strategic initiatives and lead organizational change.
- Strong communication, presentation, facilitation, interpersonal, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Ability to collaboratively work with and influence leaders, teams, and stakeholders across the organization.
