Summary Description:

The Vice President – Sourcing provides leadership for Billerud North America's sourcing strategy, supplier relationships, and category management activities. The role is accountable for delivering sustainable business value through strategic sourcing initiatives that optimize total cost, strengthen supply security, improve cash flow, mitigate risk, support sustainability objectives, and align supplier capabilities with the company's growth and profitability goals.
Serve as a member of the Americas Management Team (AMT), helping shape business strategy, optimize capital allocation, and manage enterprise risk to create long-term shareholder value. Align sourcing strategies with commercial, operational, and financial priorities while providing market intelligence and strategic insights that strengthen business planning and enhance competitive advantage.

Qualifications

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance
    Develop and execute North American sourcing strategy aligned with
  • Operations, Finance, Supply Chain, Sustainability, and global category teams.
  • Lead category management through market intelligence, cost modeling, sourcing, negotiations, contracting, supplier performance management, and governance.
  • Establish and enforce sourcing standards, approval processes, compliance requirements, and contracting practices.
  • Serve as a member of the AMT, influencing sourcing, manufacturing, and financial decisions.
  • Represent North America on global category councils and oversee disposition of non-strategic assets to maximize value.

Supplier Management & Risk

  • Lead supplier segmentation, executive business reviews, innovation partnerships, and continuous improvement programs.
  • Drive measurable improvements in cost, quality, reliability, sustainability, and service.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate supplier risks across financial, operational, geopolitical, and commodity-related factors.

Financial Performance & Cash Management

  • Deliver Finance-validated value creation through savings, inflation mitigation, and total cost improvements.
  • Improve working capital through payment-term optimization, inventory strategies, and supplier collaboration.
  • Maintain accurate, auditable documentation of realized benefits.

Supply Assurance & Resilience

  • Ensure reliable supply of critical materials through effective contracting, supplier diversification, and alternative source qualification.
  • Develop and execute mitigation plans for disruptions, including commodity volatility, outages, and logistics constraints.

Sustainability & Innovation

  • Partner with suppliers to drive innovation, sustainability initiatives, and emerging technology adoption.
  • Integrate Scope 3 reduction targets, sustainable sourcing, circularity principles, and ESG requirements into category strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with supplier codes of conduct, certifications, traceability standards, and sustainability commitments.

Leadership & Talent Development

  • Lead and develop sourcing teams across mills and categories.
  • Build succession pipelines and strengthen analytical, commercial, and leadership capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of safety, accountability, transparency, and sustainable leadership.

KEY SUCCESS MEASURES (KPIs)

  • Value Creation: AOP savings, inflation/PPV mitigation, total cost improvements.
  • Cash Performance: DPO, working capital, and cash conversion cycle improvement.
  • Supply Assurance: Material availability, OTIF performance, and risk-mitigation effectiveness.
  • Compliance: Contract coverage, sourcing-policy adherence, and obligation management.
  • Sustainability: Supplier carbon-data coverage, decarbonization progress, and ESG compliance.
  • People: Employee engagement, succession readiness, and leadership effectiveness.
  • Transformation: Adoption of SAP S/4HANA sourcing processes, automation, catalog enablement, and data quality impro

Personal qualities

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field.
  • 12–15+ years sourcing/procurement leadership in pulp & paper, chemicals, or industrial manufacturing.
  • Strategic leader with the judgment, influence, and executive presence to be an effective member of the senior leadership team.
  • Expertise in chemicals, pulp, energy, wood, and capital sourcing.
  • Strong negotiation, contracting, risk management, and financial acumen.
  • Experience with ERP/S2P platforms—SAP S/4HANA and SAP Business Network preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or Master’s in Supply Chain or Engineering.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or similar process improvement background.
  • Knowledge of Scope 1/2/3 emissions, FSC/SFI, and sustainability reporting.
  • Experience in global matrix organizations.
