Summary Description:
This position will help lead and assist in the operation and maintenance of the mill’s Kraft pulping process, assuring sufficient quantity and quality to satisfy the pulping requirements. Role will also provide safety, quality, technical and operational support for the operation of the kraft pulping system; including, leadership and guidance to team members.
Qualifications
Key Accountabilities:
• To plan, direct and maintain efficient manufacturing operation of the Kraft Mill pulping process meeting safety, production and quality requirements.
• Provide leadership in safety and environmental excellence.
• Implement and help lead the Fiberline and Kraft Mill area improvements.
• Coordinate production within current constraints.
• Provide technical expertise in daily operations.
• Uncover and Lead initiatives to address increasing input costs (wood, chemicals, and energy).
• Participate in Capital Projects planning and budgeting.
• Coordinate continuous improvement activities for the area.
• Reviews quality and cost of the production.
• Coordinates priorities for repair work and schedules shutdowns to optimize maintenance repairs.
• Thorough understanding of unit operations, process equipment, and technology.
• In depth knowledge of plant operations, maintenance spending constraints, production commitments, costs, margins, capital projects, small projects and turnarounds.
• Reviews quality and cost of the production.
• Ability to give encouragement, guidance, and direction to others to improve performance.
• Ability to listen generously and practice open advocacy.
• Ability to reach a conclusion using relevant information and data and to determine the best course of action in a timeframe that is consistent with business requirements.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both union and management.
• Ability to utilize lean manufacturing statistical tools.
• Competency with standard Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), SAP, Proficy, PI, G3PTM, etc.
• Keeps abreast of new technology in the competitive environment.
• Performs other projects and duties as assigned by the KM Area Manager.

Required Experience and Education:
Minimum Required Experience and Education:
• Bachelor’s degree in pulp & paper science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering or a related field.
• 4+ years of pulp, power, or chemical recovery manufacturing experience.
Travel: Negotiable

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical problem-solving skills; a solid background in statistical analysis is a plus.
• Proven experience with several leadership behaviors: Leading and Advocating Change, Drive for Results, Communication, Managerial Courage, Building and Effective Team, and Managing through Systems.
• Ability to make high-risk decisions under pressure is required (for situations such as production stoppages, or work affecting safety of personnel or equipment).
