Recognition and ratings
Billerud is assessed continuously by numerous customers and analysts through surveys about performance and work methods. This is fully in line with our ambition to provide stakeholders with a solid basis for their evaluation of our business.
Dow Jones Sustainability Indices
We are one of the leading companies of the Containers and Packaging industry in Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) based on our total sustainability score in 2022. We are included in the World Index, which means that we are among the top 10 percent most sustainable companies in the world - for the sixth year in a row.
We report to CDP Climate, Water Security and Forests annually. CDP assesses companies on the comprehensiveness of their disclosure, their awareness and management of environmental risks and their demonstration of best practices associated with environmental leadership.
In June 2022, we received the EcoVadis Platinum medal, the highest rating level, thus being in the top of the evaluated companies. The EcoVadis assessment is an evaluation of how well a company has integrated the principles of sustainability into their business and management system.
The UN Global Compact
We support the ten principles of the Global Compact by introducing them in our strategies and our corporate culture. We are ‘Advanced’ in our ‘Communication on Progress’ report, which highlights progress in the work with the UN Global Compact.

S&P Sustainability Yearbook
We received the Silver class distinction for our sustainability performance in the S&P Sustainability Yearbook 2022. The report analyses and ranks more than 7 500 companies on ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) issues.
We are regularly assessed by the ESG rating provider Sustainalytics on our ESG risk exposure and ESG risk management. In July 2022, we received an ESG Risk Rating of 10.9 and was assessed by Sustainalytics to be at low risk of experiencing material financial impacts from ESG factors.
MSCI ESG Rating
For the second year in a row, we are rated as a ‘Leader’ company (rating AA) within the MSCI ESG Rating (2023), which measures a company’s management of financially relevant ESG risks and opportunities using a rules-based methodology to identify industry leaders and laggards according to their exposure to ESG risks and how well they manage those risks relative to peers.
We are regularly assessed by the ESG rating provider ISS ESG, receiving the rating B- in 2023, which puts us in the top 10% in our industry. ISS ESG rates the effectively incorporate sustainability in investment decision, by helping to minimize ESG risks, comply with evolving regulatory and stakeholder requirements and seize opportunities.
