We are now looking for a Sustainability Specialist to our Innovation department, Research and specialists. 

 

Research and Specialists is a department within the group function Innovation, Product and Application Development with the assignment to work with Billerud's long term innovation and development to create conditions for profitability. We work closely with our three teams within Product and Business development and Customer service as well as external partners to take part in the latest advances in research and development.

 

The position is a permanent employment and placement can be at either our head office in Solna, Stockholm or in any of our mill sites in Sweden (Skärblacka, Gruvön, Gävle, Frövi or Karlsborg).

 

We are now looking for a specialist in the field of sustainability of packaging materials. In this role you are responsible for building the company’s knowledge within your specialist area and to assist with solutions needed for Billerud to succeed with our product and business development ambitions.

 

You will work as an expert in close collaboration with other departments in the company to find solutions for our most critical challenges we face in terms of surface and material development. The position means that you will independently and in teams carry out investigations and projects to develop the company's packaging materials with colleagues, customers, and external R&D actors.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sustainability Optimization: Assess and enhance the sustainability of existing materials and develop innovative new products.
  • Project Guidance: Provide your expert knowledge in projects spanning innovation, product and application development, marketing, sales, and production. You'll initiate, manage, and evaluate projects focused on developing sustainable packaging materials.
  • Research Contribution: Actively participate in and contribute to research and development efforts in paper and board, offering technical support on sustainability issues.
  • Tool Development: Adapt, refine, and maintain tools for assessing the sustainability of materials, ensuring our methods stay at the cutting edge.
  • Support and Assessment: Assist our business teams by conducting thorough sustainability assessments to guide organizational decisions.
  • Relationship Management: Build and maintain relationships with external partners to strengthen and validate our sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Master of Science, PhD or equivalent higher education in the field of chemical, energy, mechanical engineering or environmental science.

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the field of paper and board industry or equivalent with process knowledge.

  • Demonstrated achievements and interest in sustainability, for example through participation in green initiatives or sustainable practices.

  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written; Swedish proficiency is appreciated.
