Sustainability Forests are the earth´s lungs

Active and responsible forestry can counteract climate change and halt the greenhouse effect.

A growing forest sequesters far more carbon dioxide than a forest that has remained untouched for many years. Growing forests sequester much more carbon dioxide than a forest that has finished growing and hasremained untouched for many years. When the trees have stopped growing, carbon dioxide sequestration decreases.

A tree´s ability to sequester carbon dioxide changes with time. Initially, the plant is photosynthetically inactive. As the plant grows, storage increases at a rapid rate. When the tree is old and stops growing, it no longer has the ability to sequester carbon dioxide.
