When the trees have stopped growing, carbon dioxide sequestration decreases.
A tree´s ability to sequester carbon dioxide changes with time. Initially, the plant is photosynthetically inactive. As the plant grows, storage increases at a rapid rate. When the tree is old and stops growing, it no longer has the ability to sequester carbon dioxide.
