A jumbo jet made of paper
A jumbo jet made of paper and a computer made of wood. Those are just two of the many imaginative, often realistic, proposals presented during a project entitled Journey into the Future.
The Journey into the Future is organised by the Swedish forest industry and is designed to increase young people’s understanding of the international, ecologically adapted and technologically varied forest industry.
Over 85,000 upper secondary school students have so far participated in the project, which is set to continue. Each year the project visits a number of upper secondary schools across Sweden. Students are asked to suggest new applications for paper and wood and then perform their own industrial project from idea to production.
A survey a few years ago showed that because of this Journey into the Future project the proportion of young people favourably disposed to the forest industry had increased from around 20% to 72%.
