ProductsThe value chain |
From tree to finished packaging – Billerud’s pulp and paper production plays an important part in the value chain of many types of fibre based packages.
| Raw materials Scandinavian pine and birch are the main raw materials in Billerud's packaging papers. The harsh climate in Scandinavia means that coniferous trees grow slowly and develop long fibres - the perfect raw material for our strong paper. | |
| Pulp Billerud produces pulp at three mills (Gruvön, Karlsborg, Skärblacka). All the pulp is made from 100% primary fibre, boasting superior purity and strength. Our pulp is therefore used to make all types of quality paper. Most of Billerud's pulp is used to make paper at our own mills. Some of it is sold on the open market. | |
| Packaging paper At our four mills (Gruvön, Karlsborg, Skärblacka, Beetham) pulp is converted into packaging paper. By combining the best raw material, technology and production processes we create paper of the highest quality. Billerud specialises in advanced kraft paper, sack paper and raw material (liner and fluting) for containerboard. | |
| Converting Billerud's packaging paper is supplied to different types of converters who convert the paper into packaging for the industrial, farming, pharmaceutical and food sectors. Conversion often takes place in different stages. For example, the paper is first printed, then coated with plastic or aluminium and finally folded and glued into a finished packaging. Our customers are manufacturers of, for example, carrier bags, cement sacks, sterile packaging for medicines, food packaging and containerboard boxes. During conversion our paper must meet many requirements. It must be strong, clean, hygienic and have an even surface so that it suits production in fast, modern machinery. | |
| Filling The finished packaging is delivered to the company that fills it with a product. It can be a producer of flour, sugar, bread or different kinds of chemicals. Or producers of medical products such as sterile compresses and surgical equipment. It can also be fruit growers and winemakers packing their products in Billerud containerboard before transport. | |
| On the market Muesli, chewing gum, dog food and cement are packaged in our paper. You might carry home a new shirt and food for the weekend in carrier bags made of Billerud paper. Containerboard cases for fruit, vegetables and other fragile items can be made of our strong and clean containerboard. Billerud's paper pulp is also used for fine papers and tissue. |
